Padstow Squadron

Padstow Squadron was formed in 1962 and its aim is to offer an interesting and comprehensive program to its members. Padstow Squadron meets at the Endeavour Hall, 89 The River Road, Revesby every Friday evening. The only break from Squadron activities is over the Christmas holiday period. First Parade commences at 7.20pm, with the parading of the assembled members and the Flag Party.

The primary AAL program of educational, drill and physical activities form the basis of weekly parade nights. Cadets have the opportunity to learn a whole range of educational courses, from an elementary level, to the theory component of the Private Pilots License.

Drill is an important component of Padstow Squadron's activities as one of the leading squadrons in state and national drill competitions.  A part of the weekly parade night is dedicated to the drill program.

Physical activities is a popular part of the weekly program, with a varied program of games and activities, with an emphasis on FUN! Like drill, there are physical activities competitions at the local, state and national levels and these competitions provide the opportunity for travel both to regional NSW and interstate.

However, activities at Padstow Squadron extend beyond the Friday night parades!!!

Padstow Squadron is active in the local community, providing its services in Salvation Army, Red Cross fund raising appeals, ANZAC Day parades with the Panania-East Hills RSL and in the City.

The Band is a highly visible public face of Padstow Squadron, through its participation at ANZAC Day parades, local communities events, and an annual performance at the NSW Easter Show. Band practises are held on Sunday afternoons.

At Padstow Squadron we speak "Aviation", with aeronautical interests actively promoted to members. An extensive book and video library is available for members. Additionally, model making workshops are held every Sunday afternoons, where members can make plastic model kits or balsa wood chuck gliders.

For those who wish to fly something a little larger, the AAL maintains its own Air Activities Centre and a small fleet of light aircraft at Camden Aerodrome, for the purposes of flight training and air activities for its members. Additionally glider training is available through the Air Activities Centre, via several glider clubs. Padstow Squadron has a strong tradition in air activities, with regular participation in Air Activities Training Programs in both powered and glider aircraft. Additionally, if there is an air show on you'll often find the Squadron there, as well as visits to places of aviation interest being held throughout a Squadron year.

Whilst our heads may be "in the clouds", earthbound activities also interest members. Padstow Squadron places a strong emphasis in a program of various outdoors activities such instructional and recreation camps, hiking and canoeing expeditions. Cadets are taught a mixture different field and bushcraft skills under experienced and expert officer instructors.

Padstow Squadron is a registered operator of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, an internationally recognised achievement scheme aimed at developing initiative and community spirit in young people. The Squadron has a high level of participation in this scheme, with many of its members achieving the highest level of this award. The presentation of the Gold Award is a Royal or Vice-Regal presentation and is truly a memorable occasion.

If it seems a lot to keep track of, we keep you informed monthly of what's coming up in our Squadron "NEWS". In addition the Squadron also publishes a yearbook in December, our "Padstow Punch", which is published with articles written by officers and cadets.
